How to set up a dual outlet flowmeter for welding gas lines
- 1. Attach the flowmeter to the cylinder: Screw the dual outlet flowmeter onto the gas cylinder valve. Hand-tighten firmly; do not use tools that can overtighten and damage the seal. Open the cylinder valve slowly and check for leaks with soapy water. A hissing sound or bubbles indicate a loose connection. Tighten gently and retest.
- 2. Connect your welding machine(s) or purge line: Attach the gas hose from your first MIG or TIG machine to one outlet. If using a second machine or a purge line, connect it to the other outlet. Use the correct fittings—most machines use a standard male quick-connect. Double-check that both connections are secure. A loose fitting here is the most common cause of gas loss.
- 3. Adjust the output flow for each line: Turn the adjustment knob on each outlet to set the desired flow rate (typically 10-60 CFH). The floating ball indicator shows the actual flow. Start low and increase until you get a stable arc without wasting gas. Running both lines at maximum flow can deplete your cylinder faster than expected. Adjust based on your welding amperage and material thickness.
